Key Responsibilities:
We are offering an excellent opportunity for a driven and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. As a member of the Power team, you will report directly to the Technical Associate Director and undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
- Extensive experience in designing and reviewing HV substation layouts, cable arrangements, earthing, lightning, lighting, protection schemes, and equipment specifications.
- Providing engineering design input for major electrical power projects from feasibility to commissioning.
- Coordinating with client project teams and internal disciplines, including civil, structural, environmental, geotechnical, transport, protection and control, and CAD/BIM teams.
- Conducting comprehensive design reviews to ensure compliance with standards and industry guidelines.
- Proficient in HV plant design calculations, including instrument transformer suitability, battery and charger, surge arrester selection, busbar forces, HV cable design, earthing studies, insulation, protective relay coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Strong knowledge of major HV plant equipment, including AIS and GIS platforms, circuit breakers, transformers, disconnectors, earthing switches, control and protection panels, metalclad switchgears, and protective devices.
- Designing primary plant layouts for high-voltage substations.
- Specifying equipment for high-voltage plant and ancillary systems.
- Contributing engineering design expertise to major electrical power infrastructure projects through various stages, from feasibility and front-end engineering to detailed design, site construction monitoring, and commissioning.
- Coordinating with client project teams and internal disciplines within our company, including civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection and control, and CAD/BIM teams.
- Leading projects in emerging technologies such as energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grid solutions, and waste-to-energy initiatives.
- Mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
- Providing professional services to clients both in the UK and internationally.
- Ensure that technical, operational and maintenance queries raised during project execution are dealt with in accordance with TSO standards and policies and are closed out efficiently.
- Ensure that projects are carried out in a manner which meets Client requirements by:
- Reviewing and comparing submitted designs against client functional requirements, outline designs and operations and maintenance requirements.
- Onsite inspection and monitoring of construction progress for compliance with Client standards, functional requirements, outline designs and operations and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure developments are commissioned to comply with the Client requirements by:
- Reviewing and providing input to commissioning requirements.
- Verifying transmission system requirements are met to allow commissioning activities to proceed.
- Engagement with customer and stakeholder technical consultants as and when required with reference to operational matters.
- Provide direction and assistance across the organisation on projects and to team members and junior staff and act as a team representative when required.
What you can bring:
- Possess a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with substation automation, protection and control in on- and offshore applications.
- Chartered engineer or working towards achieving the chartership with Engineers Ireland.
- Demonstrated success in contributing engineering design expertise to significant electrical power projects.
- Exceptional coordination abilities with multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in the power sector.
- Capability to mentor and support junior engineers.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in delivering professional services to clients both within the UK and internationally.
