AtkinsRéalis was delighted to host a Safety Day for Site Supervision teams at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Dublin. The purpose of the event was to reinforce both AtkinsRéalisRéalis’ and Irish Water’s commitment to safety and ensure everyone goes home safely from work each day.
The event was attended by AtkinsRéalisRéalis’ site supervision staff working on water projects nationally, as well as representatives from Irish Water, and was followed by a tour of Irish Water’s Saggart Reservoir Project.
Psychological Safety was highlighted – It is present when colleagues trust and respect each other, and feel able, even obligated, to be candid. It enables openness and thrives in an environment of mutual respect. Both AtkinsRéalis and Irish Water work hard to create an environment where all employees feel safe to report all safety concerns, which will be assessed and responded to in a professional and respectful manner.
This was followed by a site safety discussion on lessons learned, a number of team building exercises, and a presentation about upgrade works at Saggart Reservoir, which is one of the many Irish Water Projects supervised by AtkinsRéalis.

Conor Reynolds, Regional Project Resident Engineer said “This was an important event to highlight site safety across our Irish Water sites. It was great to see so many site supervisors in attendance and engaged throughout the day.”
Saggart Reservoir
After lunch the group reconvened for a site tour at Saggart Reservoir, where Irish Water is progressing upgrade works, replacing the reservoir with a new one that will improve security of supply to the Greater Dublin Area.
This €59 million investment includes the construction of 100 million litres covered treated water reservoir to store water supplied from Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant.
The project includes the construction of:
- A 100 million litres covered treated water reservoir at the existing reservoir site in Saggart, equivalent to the size of 40 Olympic sized swimming pools
- A new electro chlorination plant and associated infrastructure
- Construction of associated pipelines on site to connect to the new reservoir.
