AtkinsRéalis provided Civil and Structural Design Services for this New Greyhound Stadium which also houses the Irish Greyhound Board National Headquarters in Limerick.

AtkinsRéalis work included Civil and Structural design of a 2,500m2, 4-storey grandstand and terraces, a 1,500 m2 office building with new all-weather racetrack, kennel and ancillary blocks. Due to poor soil conditions, piled foundations were utilised for the main structures. Stormwater drainage from the main stadium area is through a petrol inceptor to a lagoon to the south of the site. The foul water sewer is connected to the Limerick City Council main foul sewer to the north of the site. Settlement of the sewers, pavement and track has been minimised through ground treatment works comprising of surcharging with the installation od vertical drains. The office block is a 3-storey RC frame with precast floor slabs and screed. The main stadium is a steel framed structure with precast floor slabs and structural screed. The roof of the main stadium, which supports the stadium’s planar glazing elevation, is made up of a series of trusses cantilevering from the central stadium masts. Steel rods tied to the central masts limit deflection of the structural steel canopy. Stability of the stadium is achieved via RC staircores/walls and diaphragm action of the floorplates. The adjoining kennel block is a portal frame with infill blockwork with a piled foundation.

The Stadium opened in October 2010.
