AtkinsRéalis had the role of official engineering design services provider for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we provided engineering and design services on utilities, civil and structural engineering, building services, acoustics and accessibility.

AtkinsRéalis Ireland were an integral part of the team; working in various areas such as Structural, Fire Safety, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and technical reviews.

A team of over 1,000 AtkinsRéalis’ professionals worked tirelessly to plan, design and enable the Games. Our people demonstrated technical excellence in everyday engineering: from the remediation of a contaminated industrial area, to the creation of new habitats, ensuring the long term preservation of historic Greenwich Park and its seamless interaction with the temporary arenas and ensuring London’s unique venues met the strict requirements of sports governing bodies. On the Olympic Park, the scale of the project and the deadlines for delivery gave AtkinsRéalis the opportunity to demonstrate innovation in project management, cultivate a collaborative culture and help develop soil-treatment techniques likely to influence clean-up schemes for years to come. We believe the work AtkinsRéalis has undertaken to allow elite sportsmen and women to perform in iconic London locations will have a lasting impact on the way temporary events are approached in the future. In addition to the work carried out to directly support events at the Games, AtkinsRéalis has also been involved in a number of improvements to London’s infrastructure which, after playing a pivotal role in the success of the London 2012, will continue to serve the capital for decades to come.
