AtkinsRéalis was commissioned as design consultants for the project following a successful bid submitted to the Public Works Authority (PWA) in Qatar. The project was resourced by AtkinsRéalis Ireland through a combination of key staff being seconded into the AtkinsRéalis Qatar, Doha office and other team members working remotely from the Irish offices.

The project comprises two kilometres of urban dual carriageway bounded to the North by Emiri Diwan (the Qatar parliament building) and to the South the landmark Musheireb Heart of Doha (MHoD) development, which is currently under construction. The brief for the landscape designers when preparing concept designs was to make this section of Al Rayyan Road as an iconic street that would be globally recognised similar to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris.

The scope of work was to complete concept, preliminary, tender and detailed design of all multidisciplinary engineering services required for the successful completion of the project. The project design was to be completed as an accelerated 6 month programme.
